Bonne Bay Boat Tour ...
Take a cruise on scenic Bonne
Bay from Norris Point. Bonne Bay is actually two connected
fjords. The longer of the two is the South Arm, which runs more or less
straight for 18 km out to the mouth of the bay. The East Arm is joined to
the South Arm across a shallow sill, known as The Tickle and is by far the
deeper of the two fjords. The tour passes over waters as deep as anywhere
in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, reaching depths of 230 m (756 feet).
Live commentary throughout the tour highlights the surrounding features
such as Gros Morne Mountain, the geology of the Tablelands, the whales
that frequent the deep waters of this fjord and bird sightings especially bald eagles. A brief history of the small
villages nestled on the
shores is also provided.
Groups can request
to partake in an age-old tradition known as a "screech in"
featuring live traditional music. One must repeat Newfoundland sayings, do a lively
dance step and sample a little of the famous Newfoundland rum -
Screech. Participants come away with a memento of their experience,
a certificate declaring them "Honorary Newfoundlanders".
Each trip offers something
different so step aboard and join the skipper and crew of the M.V.
BonTours on an adventure to experience the highlights and gain an insight
into the unique features of beautiful Bonne Bay.
